The MLAs of the YSR Congress party demanded that sedition cases be booked against former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu so that he is punished or arrested as per the law.
Speaking on behalf of his fellow legislators in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Pedana MLA Jogi Ramesh said that sedition cases should be booked against those supporting Narasapuram Member of Parliament Kanumuru Raghu Ramakrishna Raju against whom the state’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) booked a case under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (Sedition).
The CID in its charge sheet recorded that Mr Raju had been “indulging in hate speeches against certain communities and promoting disaffection against the Government, which will cause loss of faith in the government and also cause disturbances.”
Mr Raju was elected on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) ticket in 2019, but about a year ago he began staying away from YSRCP programmes and started making inflammatory remarks a particular caste and religion against the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.
In March 2021 the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) booked cases Mr Raju under several sections of the IPC including criminal conspiracy,cheating, forgery for several different grievance offences and also causing a public servant to indulge in criminal misconduct.
MLA Ramesh said on the floor of the house that Mr Raju was arrested on sedition charges because he was trying to destabilise the Government in Andhra Pradesh after “backstabbing” Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy though he was elected to Parliament with the YSRCP ticket, symbol and agenda.
Mr Naidu was also known for “backstabbing” the then Chief Minister N T Rama Rao, he recalled in the Assembly . Mr Raju and Mr Naidu had joined forces to topple the government and were guilty of sedition, he said.

Advisor (Public affairs) to the Jagan Mohan Reddy Government Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that Mr Naidu who was raising a hue and cry about the sedition case against Mr Raju. Mr Naidu was now claiming that he had never heard in this three-decade long political career sedition cases being booked against Opposition leaders but it was during his rule that he orchestrated the registering of 12 Sedition cases against Telangana Chief Minister. YSRC Lok Sabha party leader P V Midhun Reddy said Mr Naidu was extending advice and support to Mr Raju, but the names of all supporting the sedition attempt against Jagan Mohan Reddy would soon be brought to light.
