YSRCP MPs have charged former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of conspiring to topple the Jagan Mohan Reddy Government in Andhra Pradesh in connivance with Narsapuram Lok Sabha Member K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju.
The YSRCP MPs in a statement on Monday said that conspirators and instigators behind Narasapuram MP Raghu Rama Krishna Ŕaju should be exposed in a thorough investigation. Speaking to the media the leaders strongly condemned those who were extending their tacit support for the arrested MP.
MP PV Midhun Reddy said that Mr Naidu was behind Mr Raju’s evasive actions. Under Mr Naidu’s direction\, the Narasapuram MP was staging the drama of being assaulted by the police, soon after the bail was rejected. He said that Mr Chandrababu Naidu had been using Raju’s family for politicising things . Surprisingly Mr Naidu did not even make such emotional remarks even when TDP leaders were arrested, Mr Midhun Reddy pointed out.
Mr Midhun Reddy refuting Mr Raju’s accusations that he was beaten by the CID police while in custody said that doctors had reported to the court that no such thing had happened and there were no such injuries. He said that Mr Raju was putting up such dramas to avoid being taken to jail and it was not right for Mr Raju to ask for getting treated only at Ramesh Hospital as everyone knew that the hospital belonged to a close associate of Mr Chandrababu Naidu. He said that there were many other private hospitals in the State and there was also AIIMS, where he could have got the best of treatment but why was he insisting on Ramesh Hospital, he asked.
A single-judge bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court comprising Justice K. Suresh Reddy on May 15 dismissed the bail plea of Mr Raju. He was arrested on May 14 from his residence in Hyderabad by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Andhra Pradesh Police and was charged under sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505 (incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence) read with 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
He was elected in 2019 on a ticket of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), but in recent months has revolted against the party’s top leadership, primarily Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
After Raju was arrested, the CID in a statement said: “A preliminary enquiry ordered by ADG [Additional Director General of Police] CID P.V. Sunil Kumar found that through his speeches on a regular basis Mr Raju was indulging in systematic, schematic effort to cause tensions among the communities and by attacking various government dignitaries in a way which will cause loss of faith in the government which they represent.”
The YSRCP has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking Ramakrishna Raju’s disqualification as a Member of Parliament.
